St Patricks Day Gifts / February 15, 2019 / Kelly Roberson.
On March 17 1762 Irish soldiers who served in the English military marched through New York City. The parade and music stirred their emotions and brought back memories of Ireland and fellow soldiers they had lost. Irish Americans began observing the holiday publicly in Boston and held the first St. Patrick s Day Parade (organized by the Charitable Irish Society) in New York City in 1766. Even today the St. Patrick Day parade is a mixture of religious beliefs and many people go to Ireland for the festivities fireworks and the parade. Parades take place in other places too: London Paris Rome Moscow Beijing Hong Kong Singapore as well as throughout the Americas.
Remember you are going for romance here so do plan well. Step 3. Consider the atmosphere. Of course you will want a candlelit dinner but you can do much more especially on St. Patricks Day. Consider selecting romantic Irish folk music lighting a fire if the weather cooperates and even clearing some space for close dancing. Step 4. Extras. Depending on where you are in your relationship you might want to plan a few extras. If retiring behind closed doors is likely on tap you can prepare a special surprise in here as well. Consider green silk sheets lots of candles and even sprinkling a path with silk rose petals or lucky four-leaf clover designs.
Americans have adopted this holiday like fanatics: wearing green drinking (green) beer and eating corned beef and cabbage (sometimes green too). In Chicago the Chicago River is dyed green for the holiday! St. Patrick s Day is a fun holiday filled with friends food and drinking. Not to mention a lot of green. If you have St. Patrick s Day parties or get together coming up for this holiday or want to plan ahead on what to wear here are a few ideas to make the your holiday clothing as festive as the rest of the day. Of course you will want to go all green. That great thing about this holiday is that just about every store you go to now has t-shirts shorts skirts pants and accessories to dress yourself up with.
The Irish aren t much like the people that Irish Americans pretend to be on St Patricks Day. But please don t take our stereotypes away. We love them so. Descendents of those who immigrated during the Irish potato famines of the 18th and 19th century generally only have St Patricks Day to remind them of those long ago ancestral ties. We may not have any real understanding of the country at all. Still we must beg pardon of the modern Irish citizenry and continue our traditions. So with tongue in cheek every American who likes a mid-March excuse to celebrate professes to be partly of Irish ancestry.
Hosting a dinner or party for any age group will be more politically correct when attention is given to actual cultural images. Celtic historical crafts and Gaelic lettered items as well as Celtic music will lend more accuracy. Folk dance or DVD s of popular dance could be offered for entertainment. More sophisticated guests might enjoy readings from the poetry of Ireland which is rich and varied. Most of us will descend into the habit of bad Irish accents and excessive imbibing. It is the American way. Don t drink and drive. What Is Saint Patricks Day? Saint Patrick is a patron saint of Ireland.
