Take sheets of plain white paper and cut them into snowflakes using all different patterns (use your imagination). Place the hearts over the snowflakes and trace around the edges. Cut the snowflake so it fits over the heart and glue them together. You could also trim the snowflake so it is slightly smaller to give the heart a framed look. Hang the hearts throughout your home on mirrors on glassed over wall hangings and from lighting. Project Idea #3 Create a simple paper chain using red pink and white. Alternate the colors in a pattern that pleases you. Theres no right or wrong way to do this. Hang this with additional Valentines day decorations like the paper hearts mentioned above. Consider hanging the hearts from the chain itself. As an added twist cut large hearts out from pieces of decorative scrapbook paper.
They are made with salt dough and make great sculptures to have as keepsakes. Youll need: o 2 cups of plain flour o 1 cup of salt o 1 cup of water o oven o acrylic paint o knife o board o rolling pin o paintbrushes o baking tray o pen pencil or stylus Mix the two cups of flour into a bowl with one cup of salt and one cup of water with your hands until the dough is entirely moistened and sticks together. It should be like pizza dough easy to mold. Youll see the little grains of salt in the dough dont worry thats what it should look like. Roll out the dough into a sheet about a quarter of an inch thick. Then use your stylus pen or pencil to cut out a heart shape. Set this aside and roll out the dough again to cut out some smaller heart shapes. Once you have about three heart shapes in decreasing size you can press one on top of the other. Use a little water between the layers to act as a glue or paste.
Next place your heart shapes onto the cooking tray and bake them in the oven for about a half an hour at 212 degrees Fahrenheit. When they are done let them cool. You can now paint them with red pink or white acrylic paint. To hang them on the wall you can hammer a couple of small nails into the back and string with wire or string. The sculpture will be light enough to hang on a small nail or screw in the wall and you can reuse it every year.
