Earth Day Gifts / February 26, 2019 / Eve Callahan.
It is a relationship promoting holiday that can be celebrated by making a difference. Organizing an event changing a habit or launching a community garden can all be on the agenda of celebrating Earth Day. Bringing people together with mutual interests is typical of the earth element. Protecting the environment is now a priority among the many issues of global concerns. On a small scale we can look at the microcosm of family life with genuine goals of adjusting bad habits toward better practices in the usage of measurable resources. Our carbon footprint is not just an abstract concept but a very real and measurable entity.
This festival is called Pathare Pravu meaning Mother s Day. The festival follows the legend of a mother whose children never used to live beyond the first year of their birth. The Pathare Pravu Mother s Day celebration is ancient in nature and thousands of years older than the present US and international culture of celebrating. There was also the culture of Mata Tirtha Aunshi (Mother s Pilgrimage Fortnight) in North Eastern India where in April in the Krishna Paksha of Baisakh month pilgrimage is made to Mata Kunda to worship living mothers and mothers who have left the earth.
Both events were birthed in 1969 with grassroots efforts a focus on environmental awareness and celebration of Earth. Events to Leading to Earth Day Prior to 1970 conservatism was an idea held by a minority of people. The notion that natural resources would become devastated to the point of extinction did not enter our collective thought. Pollution from our buildings cars and behavior was a normal industry by-product. The idea of being the world s steward was lumped in a mindset of a hippie thing and not understood by mainstream America. Two previous events tilted our environmental awareness: a book and a picture.
Whether it is a ballet recital or helping sell Girl Scout cookies she is on the front line and is there on time to participate. Great presents for busy moms include items like a pocket-sized camcorder or digital camera so she can capture those once in a lifetime moments in time. The newbie mom is pretty much self explanatory. She is new to the game of motherhood and is getting her feet wet with diapers breastfeeding and surviving on a couple of hours of sleep. Great presents for new moms would be an overnight get away spa treatment movie tickets for 2 and a restaurant gift card.
The proclamation also stated that participants would celebrate an international Earth Day to create a single community and embrace Earth s gifts. The proclamation was endorsed by well-known people and leaders around the world: astronaut Buzz Aldrin anthropologist Margaret Mead inventor-scientist Buckminister Fuller Japanese environmental scientist Y. Fukushima American senators U.N. President S.O. Adebo and UN Secretary-General Thant. In April of 1970 the world celebrated another Earth Day event. The April 22nd event also began as a way to spread awareness of environmental issues. American Senator and conservationist Gaylord Nelson had actively toured the U.S. in the mid 1960 s with an environmental awareness agenda.
