Fathers Day / March 4, 2019 / Blanche Durham.
Often a grandfather can see the mistakes he made with his own children and feel privileged at having the opportunity to do a better job and make amends with his grandchildren. Step fathers form an increasingly important part of many family structures some families featuring a few father figures over time. Losing the relationship with ones father and then having to cope with the implications of his departure is devastating particularly if he had a close connection with the children. Tact and sensitivity is required during the transition from both parents as children need consistency routine and to feel safe and secure.
Or conversely the child may react against their treatment and become rebellious defiant as they continue to demand attention any attention being deemed better than none. Lets reflect on the qualities we may feel are important in a father: - Physical strength is a quality many children value in their father. Children feel proud when their father is strong and physically fit. They feel protected against whatever danger there may be in the world. Knowing he is strong provides reassurance and a sense of security.- Moral strength is important. Children like to see their father do the right thing have principles and be fair.
School teachers neighbours the fathers of friends all have the potential to affect the way in which we develop and grow and influence our life choices. Our biological father is for many of us the most important man in our life but in some cases he may be cynically regarded as a sperm donor and nothing more. There may be other far more significant loving caring and influential male role models in our lives. A real father provides his family with a feeling of safety and security. He usually earns money with which to support the family but is also increasingly involved with childcare and parenting duties.
This act of yours will tell him that you still care for him. Today Fathers Day is celebrated in more than 50 countries all over the world on the third Sunday of June. In 2010 the third Sunday of June and thus Fathers Day will be on the 20th. This holiday is similar with Mothers Day only that it is (obviously) for fathers. We used to make gifts for our mothers every year on Mothers Day. Why not search for Fathers Day presents as well? Fathers Day presents can be anything you think will make your dad really happy. Is your dad an avid reader? Then buy him a book you are sure he will really like.
Fathers Day is also an opportunity to reflect on the things were sure wed like to do differently. Looking to improve and do a better job be determined not to repeat the mistakes that were made with us is all part of growing up and aiming to be the best we can be when we come to parent our own children.
